Crawl space work in and around Raleigh and Clayton: waterproofing, encapsulation, sealing, vapor barriers, inspections and cleanouts, all starting with a proper look under the house.
Crawlspace Waterproofing in Raleigh
Water gets in through block walls, dirt floors and old vents. I find where it's coming from and put a system in to keep it out.
What's included
- Interior drainage channel installed
- Sump pump fitted where needed
- Foundation walls and floor sealed
- Vents and entry points sealed
- Grading and discharge checked
Most crawl space water problems have a specific entry point, whether that's a crack in the block wall, a vent that's letting rain in, or groundwater coming up through a dirt floor. I get under the house, trace where the water is actually coming from, and design the drainage and sealing around that, rather than fitting a standard package regardless of what's causing the problem.
Depending on what I find, that might mean an interior drainage channel running to a sump pump, sealing the foundation walls, or a combination of both. I'll walk you through what's needed and why before any work starts, so you're only paying for what the space actually requires.

Crawlspace Encapsulation in Raleigh
A full encapsulation lines the floor and walls, seals the vents, and fits a dehumidifier so moisture, pests and musty air stay out.
What's included
- Heavy-duty liner on floor and walls
- Vents and access door sealed
- Dehumidifier installed
- Seams taped and sealed
- Insulation checked and replaced
Encapsulation goes further than a vapor barrier on its own. The whole crawl space gets lined floor to wall with heavy-duty sheeting, the vents and access door are sealed up, and a dehumidifier keeps the air inside dry going forward. Done properly it stops the space acting as a source of damp, cold air and musty smells reaching the rooms above.
I'll check the existing insulation and framing while I'm in there and let you know if anything needs replacing before the liner goes in, rather than sealing over a problem. Once it's done, the space stays dry and closed off without you needing to think about it again.

Crawlspace Sealing Services in Raleigh
I seal vents, gaps around pipes and wiring, and the access door, so the crawl space stops pulling in damp outside air.
What's included
- Foundation vents sealed shut
- Gaps around pipes and wiring sealed
- Access door fitted and sealed
- Rim joists and sill plate checked
- Existing sealing repaired
Open vents and unsealed gaps are one of the main reasons a crawl space stays damp even after other work has been done. I go around and seal the vents, the gaps where pipes and wiring pass through, and the access door itself, so outside air and moisture aren't just getting back in a different way.
This is often done alongside encapsulation or waterproofing, but it also stands on its own if the rest of the space is in reasonable shape and the main issue is air getting in where it shouldn't.

Vapor Barrier Installation in Raleigh
A heavy-duty liner goes down across the floor and up the walls, stopping ground moisture rising into the home above.
What's included
- Old, torn liner removed first
- Heavy-duty polyethylene liner fitted
- Liner run up foundation walls
- Seams taped and sealed
- Fastened around piers and posts
Ground moisture rises through a bare dirt floor constantly, even when there's no obvious flooding or leak. A proper vapor barrier stops that at the source, covering the floor and running up the foundation walls so moisture can't work its way around the edges.
If there's an old, thin or torn liner down already, I'll pull that out first rather than laying a new one over it. The seams get taped and the liner is fastened around piers and posts so it stays in place, not just draped over the ground.

Crawl Space Inspection in Raleigh
I get under the house, check the wood, insulation, vapor barrier and vents, and give you a clear breakdown of what's actually needed.
What's included
- Full visual check under the home
- Wood and framing checked for rot
- Existing vapor barrier assessed
- Moisture and mold signs noted
- Written breakdown of findings
This is where every job starts. I get under the house and check the condition of the wood, the insulation, any existing vapor barrier, and the vents, looking for signs of moisture, rot or mold rather than just quoting off a general checklist.
You get a straightforward breakdown of what I actually found and what, if anything, needs doing about it. If the space is in decent shape, I'll tell you that too. It's especially useful if you've just bought a home with an older crawl space and aren't sure what you're dealing with.

Crawlspace Cleaning in Raleigh
I clear out old insulation, debris and damaged materials so the space is dry and ready before any new work goes in.
What's included
- Old, wet insulation removed
- Debris and old liner cleared out
- Mold-affected material removed
- Space dried out before new work
- Ready for encapsulation or sealing
Before any waterproofing, sealing or encapsulation makes sense, the crawl space often needs clearing out first. That means pulling out old, wet insulation, old liner, general debris, and anything showing mold or damage, so the work that follows goes onto a clean, dry base.
This can be done as a standalone cleanout if the space just needs tidying up, or as the first stage of a larger job. Either way, nothing goes back in or gets sealed over until what's underneath is actually dealt with.

How It Works
Three steps, no pressure
1
Call or message Matt
Tell Matt what's going on with your crawl space, or if you're not sure, that's fine too. He'll ask a few questions to work out whether he needs to come and see it.
2
Free inspection & quote
Matt gets under the house, checks it properly, and walks you through what he's found and your options, with no pressure to do more than the space actually needs.
3
The work
Matt does the work himself and cleans up after. If there's anything you can reasonably do yourself, he'll tell you and talk you through it.
